Hyundai Motor Targets To Sell 280,000 Cars In Europe '03

SEOUL January 21, 2003; Jeongjin Lim writing for Dow Jones reported that Hyundai Motor Co. , South Korea's largest carmaker, aims to sell 280,000 cars in Europe this year, compared with 250,000 in 2002.

The company expects its newly introduced compact model, Getz, to help boost overall sales in Europe, as there has been strong demand for the new model so far, it said in a statement.

Hyundai Motor said it sold 18,000 Getz units in about two months since introducing the car in Europe in October. It aims to sell up to 90,000 Getz units in that market this year.

"Expansion in the European market a part of Hyundai Motor's effort to diversify its overseas markets as the weakening U.S. dollar increases uncertainties in its overseas sales outlook," the company said.
