ArvinMeritor to Close Facility in Gordonsville, Tenn.

    TROY, Mich., Jan. 21 ArvinMeritor, Inc. today
announced it would close its Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) Apertures facility in
Gordonsville, Tenn., by August 2003.  The closure is the result of
overcapacity in the North American passenger car supplier market and part of
the company's overall efforts to cut costs, as well as to maintain its
leadership position in a highly competitive industry.

    The Gordonsville facility employs 317 full-time people and is a producer
of window regulators and sunroof systems.  Operations based in Gordonsville
will be transferred to ArvinMeritor locations in Detroit, Mich., Marion, S.C.,
Franklin, Ind., and Queretaro, Mexico.  There will be no disruption in service
to ArvinMeritor customers.
    "Actions such as these are never easy to take, but are necessary because
of the highly competitive nature of the automotive industry," said Steve
Scgalski, vice president, Operations, LVS Americas.  "We must take these steps
to balance our production capacities with our customer needs."
    Employees were advised of the closure today, during a meeting at the
facility.  ArvinMeritor has contracted with "The Transition Team," an
outplacement services firm, who will be on site for the duration of the plant
closing.  In addition to offering employees a two-day job search seminar,
resume counseling and training on interviewing skills, the firm will provide
financial counseling, employee assistance program services, and relocation
counseling assistance, as necessary.
