Harmon to Represent BE&K Industrial Services in National Craft Professional of the Year Competition
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Jan. 16, 2003--BE&K Industrial Services Vice President Sue Steele announced today that Carl Harmon, Sr. will represent the company in a national competition sponsored by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).Harmon is a certified ironworker, carpenter, pipefitter and welder with over 30 years of construction experience. "Carl epitomizes the qualities we value in our team members," said Steele. "He has embraced every training opportunity on the job and supports younger workers who are just learning the craft. He's also committed to the BE&K legacy of giving back to the community." In addition to his professional skill, Harmon is a founding member and currently chairman of a non-profit agency that works to repair property and raise funds for elderly citizens seeking to maintain their independent home ownership. Harmon is a resident of Hemingway, South Carolina currently engaged as an ironworker on a maintenance team assignment for International Paper.
The ABC competition is designed to recognize industry role models who exemplify the best in craft training and skill, professional conduct, and community service. ABC introduced the competition recognizing six regional and one national winner in 2001. Winners will be announced at the association's national convention in March. ABC is a trade association representing about 23,000 contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and construction related firms. Mary Hodge, an electrician with BE&K Construction Company won the national honors last year.
