HAYWARD, Calif.--Jan. 16, 2003--AvantGo, Inc. , a leading provider of mobile enterprise software, today announced the debut of General Motors "PDA Showroom" mobile application at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The mobile application, delivered through the My AvantGo(R) service, allows attendees to use their handheld computers to download information about all GM vehicles at "beaming" stations throughout the show via infrared ports, now ubiquitous to most handheld computers. The GM PDA Showroom, which includes images and detailed vehicle specifications, can be downloaded via synchronization with a desktop computer prior to the auto show at www.myavantgo.com and many GM division sites or through infrared "beaming" at the show. The beaming units are supplied by San Francisco-based WideRay, a specialist in infrared content delivery. The general public can use the mobile marketing application to shop for a car; it is completely customizable and makes browsing the more than 50 vehicles in the GM family simple and fun. Customers can shop on their handheld and browse by GM division, style of vehicle, size, feature or pricing, for example.
The 2003 North American International Auto Show is being held from Jan. 11-20 at Detroit's Cobo Conference & Exhibition Center. In addition to the auto show, the GM PDA Showroom will become a part of the permanent exhibit at GM World, at GM Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center in Detroit. The application will be continually updated as new products are launched.
