Delphi Dayton Plants- "Better Improve Or Else"
DAYTON, Ohio January 13, 2003; The AP reports that four Delphi Corp. plants will be sold, closed or dramatically reduced if they don't start turning a profit, company officials said.
Workers at two Dayton brake plants and two Moraine air conditioning compressor plants received letters Friday warning of consequences if there is no turnaround.
Delphi, the world's largest auto parts supplier, put the four plants in a separate division with its other underperforming businesses. Chief Financial Officer Alan Dawes said the plants could be closed or sold if the financial problems aren't fixed.
Brad Jackson, spokesman for the Troy-based company, said there's no timetable for deciding the plants' fate.
Delphi had 15,000 workers in the Dayton area five years ago, before it began eliminating jobs. The company is cutting 930 more jobs by Feb. 1, which will leave about 8,700 workers locally.
