Motor Racing Legends Nominated
For Eagle One-Shav Glick Award
Carlsbad, Calif., Jan. 10, 2003 -- Racing
legends Craig Breedlove, Rick Mears,
Chris Pook, Don Prudhomme and Les
Richter have been nominated for the fourth
annual Eagle One-Shav Glick Award.
The award, presented by the car-care
products company, recognizes distinguished
achievement in motor racing by a Californian.
Previous winners were Dan Gurney, Wally
Parks and Parnelli Jones.
Named in honor of the long-time motor sports
writer for the Los Angeles Times, the award
will be presented during pre-race ceremonies
at the NASCAR Winston Cup race, April 27,
at California Speedway.
Breedlove, a former Land Speed Record holder,
was the first driver to exceed 400, 500 and 600
mph. Mears was a four-time winner of the Indy
500 and three time CART national champion.
Pook founded the Long Beach Grand Prix and
now is President and CEO of CART. Prudhomme
was a four-time NHRA Funny Car champion.
Richter was president and overseer of Riverside
International Raceway for23 years and a leading
force in the building of California Speedway.
Judges are: Mike Harris, Associated Press; Bill
Center, San Diego Union-Tribune; Jim Short,
Riverside Press-Enterprise; Doug Stokes, Irwindale
Speedway; John Zimmermann, Racer magazine;
and Parnelli Jones.
