North American International Auto Show Media Attendance Tops 6,500

    DETROIT, Jan. 9, 2003; The North American International Auto Show
(NAIAS) today announced that more than 6,500 journalists attended Press
Preview Days, Jan. 5 - 7, 2003, making it once again one of the largest media
events in North America.
    Media covering the show came from 54 countries around the globe, with
about 36 percent being international journalists.  More than 4,000 U.S.
journalists attended, representing more than 40 states.
    Attending media included broadcast radio, TV, print and online
publications.  Some of the notable media that visited Detroit to cover the
show include Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, CNBC, CNN, PBS, The
Discovery Channel, BBC, CBC, Fuji TV, TV Tokyo and Entertainment Tonight,
which is scheduled to broadcast live with host Bob Goen from the sold-out
NAIAS Charity Preview on Friday, Jan. 10.
    During Press Preview Days, media covered nearly 50 press conferences that
resulted in the unveiling of nearly 60 new vehicles from automakers spanning
the globe.

    About the North American International Auto Show
    Public Days for NAIAS 2003 are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.,
Saturday, January 11, through Sunday, January 19.  On Monday, January 20, the
show is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  No admittance one hour in advance
of closing each day.
    Celebrating its 15th year as an international event, the North American
International Auto Show is considered among the most prestigious auto shows in
the world and is one of the largest media events in North America.  This year,
the show hosted nearly 60 new vehicle introductions.  The NAIAS is the only
auto show in the United States to earn the distinguished sanction of the
Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles, the Paris-based
alliance of automotive trade associations and manufacturers from around the
