Puryear Release

South Boston, VA - USAR driver Stacy Puryear, who finished 13th in the 2002 points standings for car owner Butch Mabe, has a new ride in the Hooters ProCup Series for 2003. Puryear, 32, will drive the No. 11 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Stacy Puryear Motorsports in 2003.

"I have put a lot of thought into starting my own team and came close to doing so in 2002 until Butch Mabe asked me to join his team," Puryear said. "It's a great opportunity for me to contend for the 2003 season with a strong team and also try and run some Busch Series races as well. You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with and I feel I need to be more in control of my own destiny," Puryear said.

Puryear, a native of South Boston, VA, also announced that Billy Mahan will serve as crew chief for Stacy Puryear Motorsports.

"I am very excited to have Billy Mahan joining me once again as my crew chief," Puryear said.

Mahan served as crew chief for Puryear in 1998 and 1999. They won several of the large purse Late Model races and finished in the top-10 31 out of 41 races in 1999.

"All of the team members that were with me in 2002 will join me at Stacy Puryear Motorsports to form a strong team that I need so I can compete for the championship. Carolina Promotions has secured a sponsor and we will be making that announcement near the end of January," Puryear said.
