JIMMY KITE TO RACE CHILI BOWL FOR LEHMANN
-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga., Thursday, December 19, 2002 - Open wheel racing expert
Jimmy Kite, 26, will add yet another highlight to his already impressive
racing resume next month. Lehmann Racing and Kite announced today that the
Georgia resident would compete in his first Chili Bowl Nationals midget race
for longtime owner and driver Donny Lehmann. Kite will pilot the #30X
Lehmann Racing/ Landrum Springs Pontiac-powered Maxim chassis in the 17th
Annual Chili Bowl at the Tulsa (Oklahoma) Expo Center January 8-11, 2003.
“I asked Santa to bring me a midget for the Chili Bowl this year and he came
though big-time. I told him I’d been real good and, I guess, I fooled him,”
joked Kite. “The Chili Bowl is such a tradition and the racing is just
incredible. Donny Lehmann has given me a great opportunity with top-notch
equipment in one of the biggest midget races of the year. I have always
wanted to run this race and, for whatever reason, have just never had the
chance. Good things come to those that wait and this opportunity is a very
good thing.”
Kite will team with Lehmann of Springfield, Illinois and dirt late model
standout Scott Bloomquist of Moorseburg, Tennessee. The trio will race on
Hoosier tires.
“There is no doubt the competition is going to be tough,” continued Kite
from his Georgia home. “The entry list is a who’s-who of racing. It’s going
to be a battle every night just to make the show. It’ll be my first time at
the Chili Bowl and I have only raced a midget on dirt once in the last few
years. It’ll be a challenge. I can’t wait. I have two awesome teammates and
I think we can give Lehmann Racing some great results. I am really looking
forward to going out there and starting the year off right.”
Kite began racing quarter-midgets at the age of eight and worked his way up
through mini-sprints, USAC midgets, sprint cars and Silver Crown cars to the
Indy Racing League. He is a five-time national champion in various
open-wheel series with countless victories and is the 1997 USAC Silver Crown
Rookie of the Year and Copper World Classic winner. He has a career total of
22 Indy Racing events and $1,232,000 in career IRL earnings.
