Valeo Advanced Thermal Systems to Be Featured on Future Chrysler Group Vehicle

PARIS--Dec. 17, 2002--Next-generation thermal systems developed by Valeo (Paris: FR; OTC: VLEEY) - including both engine cooling and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) - will keep powertrain and passengers at the optimum desired temperatures in a future Chrysler Group vehicle.
Commenting on the significance of the contract, Thierry Morin, Chairman of Valeo's Management Board said, "This award, combining engine cooling and HVAC in a single contract, is yet another example of the success of Valeo's Domain approach, in this instance, for the Vehicle Thermal Systems domain. Our determination to offer customers innovative solutions that transcend traditional product or system definitions is based on networking our considerable technical knowledge and expertise. It is most gratifying to receive this significant award from a valued customer."
Valeo was awarded total systems responsibility for the design and development of the complete thermal system, optimized to meet the specific characteristics of the vehicle. These designs and program enhancements generated a more cost-effective climate control and engine cooling system that will significantly enhance market appeal.
Primary factors responsible for these advanced systems were technical innovations by Valeo engineers, creative global purchasing practices among Tier 2 and 3 suppliers, synergies with other customer programs, and lean manufacturing methodology.
The HVAC system is based on technologies that incorporate a proven Valeo concept: the "Cross Flow Baffle." This allows fine-tuning of temperature stratification in previously unattainable small volumes, ensuring optimal occupant comfort. This system also incorporates six new patents ranging from unit architecture to kinematics.
Both the climate control and engine cooling functions are based on Valeo's advanced heat exchange control technologies. Valeo engineers are further fine-tuning both functions by optimizing and vertically integrating all components.
The "Vehicle Thermal Systems" Domain offers solutions to generate, control, and dissipate the thermal energy generated within the vehicle by optimizing engine cooling and improving cabin climate comfort for vehicle occupants. The Valeo products included in the Vehicle Thermal Systems integrated approach are heating and air conditioning systems, a diversified range of heat exchangers, combined with electronically controlled fans, water pumps, thermostats, and valves.
Valeo is an independent industrial Group fully focused on the design, production and sale of components, integrated systems and modules for cars and trucks. Valeo ranks among the world's top automotive suppliers. The Group has 139 plants, 53 R&D centers, 10 distribution centers and employs nearly 71,000 people in 25 countries worldwide.
