Research Frontiers Licensee BRG Group Partners With Reid Glass to Produce SPD-Smart Windows for Architectural and Automotive Applications
WOODBURY, N.Y. & SOUTHFIELD, Mich.--Dec. 17, 2002--Homeowners, architects, designers, and developers will soon be able to see the latest SPD-Smart windows at the Reid Glass showroom in Southfield, Michigan. The BRG Group, with its experience in innovative automotive products, has aligned with Reid Glass Company, which specializes in custom architectural glass, to manufacture SPD-Smart(TM) architectural and automotive window products using Research Frontiers' patented SPD light-control film technology. This alliance follows BRG Group obtaining a license from Research Frontiers Incorporated .
In an SPD-Smart window or automotive sunroof or other product, the user can manually or automatically "tune" the amount of light, glare and heat coming into a home, office, or vehicle. The Reid Glass showroom will display large panels of SPD-Smart glass including custom curved glass panels recently featured at the Glasstec 2002 glass show in Dusseldorf, Germany. This showroom is also strategically located near Detroit's auto manufacturers and their Tier-1 suppliers.
Joel Cothery, President of Reid Glass, commented: "BRG Group initially became excited about the benefits that SPD light-control technology offers for automotive products such as sunroofs, sunvisors, rear-view/side-view mirrors and window glass. BRG then introduced Reid Glass to the cost-effective performance advantages and energy efficiencies that SPD technology provides over existing architectural product offerings. This technology will complement the numerous high-end products that Reid Glass currently provides to both the residential and commercial glass markets."
SPD-Smart film technology was recently awarded a Best of What's New Award from Popular Science magazine for home technology. Additional information about SPD-Smart windows and other products can be found at www.SmartGlass.com.
