Fleetwood RV Reports a Significant Increase in Sales at the 2002 RVIA Industry Trade Show With Over $110 Million in Orders
RIVERSIDE, Calif., Dec. 16, 2002; Fleetwood RV, the nation's leading recreational vehicle manufacturer, announced today that sales at the RVIA National Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky were up over 27% from last year with over $110 million in orders written at the show. The three-day event is the largest industry show of the year and is open to RV dealers across the country and internationally.
Fleetwood's folding trailer division had three new floorplans on display, all of which were well-received by the dealers. Larry Marsh, Fleetwood's Vice President and General Manager of the Coleman division, said, "We were very pleased with the traffic in the booth. Orders were almost double last year's results and we were able to set up several new Caravan distribution points. The new Caravan triple-bunk floorplan did very well at the show. The Caravan is Coleman's new expandable travel trailer line. We also displayed a fully automatic power-assist operating system on our new Monterey folding trailer. We feel that the new 'Up and Out' system is easily one of the most innovative features introduced to the folding trailer market in years."
Fleetwood's towable division made significant product enhancements to its core brands, Prowler, Wilderness and Terry. Bob Thompson, Fleetwood's Vice President of RV Product Development, said, "We made so many enhancements to our products this year that it was difficult for our dealers to see everything in the short time available. We expect additional orders to come in once dealers have a chance to re-evaluate their product offerings as a result of the significant changes to the Fleetwood product line. We have also entered new markets with our aluminum frame construction and our enhanced fifth-wheel line-up. The dealers were excited about the unique and innovative features built into the new products, as well as the greatly enhanced look of the interiors and exteriors. All these enhancements should enable Fleetwood RV to better compete in the emerging travel trailer upgrade market."
Fleetwood's motor home division had several highlights of its own. Thompson continued, "Fleetwood's motor home division debuted several exciting new floorplans in Louisville. We introduced a new Class C rental unit that exceeded our expectations with over 100 orders at the show. The most innovative floorplan in the gas segment was the triple-slide Pace Arrow and Southwind, the first of its kind in its price point. The Discovery, Excursion and Providence now offer a new quad slide in the diesel segment. The Revolution is now standard with full-body paint. The paint application capability of our new paint facility in Decatur, Indiana is state-of-the-art. We believe this will give us an advantage in the diesel marketplace where the demand for this feature continues to grow."
Frank Winegar, Fleetwood's newly appointed Vice President of the RV Group, said, "We are extremely pleased with the sales results from the Louisville RV show and we are especially gratified by the overwhelming excitement that surrounded Fleetwood's exhibit. Fleetwood's reputation for quality, features and value were evident in all products. This is underscored by the fact that Fleetwood RV continues to lead the Class A market with 20.7% year-to-date market share according to Statistical Surveys, Inc. (January 2002 - September 2002). Our Louisville sales results increased over last year across the board, which indicates that Fleetwood is in touch with consumers' expectations and our dealers recognize it."
