BMW WilliamsF1 Team-Jerez Test
JEREZ TEST 12th 14th December 2002
Summary:
The BMW WilliamsF1 Team today completed pre-Christmas winter testing
conducted by Ralf Schumacher and Marc Gené with a three day session at the
Jerez Circuit in southern Spain. The battery of end of year tests have been
scheduled to test and assess major new components, including the new BMW P83
engine, for the 2003 season. With a track testing ban now in place, this
programme will re-commence early in the new year in preparation for running
the all-new 2003 chassis ahead of the start of the new season in March.
Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1):
"We have moved further south to Jerez to look for the best weather in Spain.
There have been variable conditions with a lot of wind. Marc continued
working on the new engine and gearbox as well as evaluating new brake
development. Ralf has been doing aerodynamic assessment and tyre testing for
Michelin. Now we have the Christmas break and then it will be straight back
to Jerez in the New Year, again with Ralf and Marc."
Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director):
"We are also pleased with the test results. One of the two FW24 was powered
by our new P83 BMW engine which Marc Gené was driving, focussing on engine
set-up, traction control and the car set-up. We have had no problems with
the new engine. Meanwhile Ralf¹s car has been running the P82 engine and
last year¹s gearbox."
