GM Pittsburgh Dedicates New Flag Poles For Pearl Harbor Day

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa.- The General Motors Pittsburgh Plant, located in West Mifflin, will join in the commemoration of Pearl Harbor Day with a ceremony to dedicate newly installed flagpoles on plant property this Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. Participating in the ceremony will be a Marine Color Guard from Company B in North Versailles, Pa. Representatives from the United States Navy and Army will be present as well. Rev. Valentine, Marine Corp Captain and Chaplain of the Armed Services in Pennsylvania, will deliver the invocation.

Weather permitting, the War Birds of America, based at Rostraver Airport, will conduct a fly-over in their T-34 aircraft. Brief presentations by veterans currently working at the General Motors plant are also planned. More than 25% of the current and retired workforce of the plant are veterans.

Dan Welton, plant manager, stated, "This ceremony is an opportunity for our employees to acknowledge the contribution our veterans have made. It also gives us a chance to express our patriotism as we show our respect for the United States flag."

The Pittsburgh Plant is part of the General Motors Metal Fabricating Division. Located at 1451 Lebanon School Road in West Mifflin, the facility fabricates sheet metal parts for current and past model GM cars and trucks. Built in 1950, the plant employs over 750 people.

GM Metal Fabricating Division, headquartered in Troy, Mich., supplies the sheet metal components and assemblies for a majority of the General Motors vehicles produced in North America. The division has 18 operating facilities located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, Louisiana and Canada.
