Viisage Momentum Continues as It Wins Multi-Year Drivers' License Contract from the State of Delaware
LITTLETON, Mass.--Dec. 4, 2002--Viisage Technology, Inc. , the leader in facial recognition biometrics and secure identification systems, announced today that the company has added the state of Delaware to its recent drivers' license contract wins.
Viisage has been selected to design, develop and implement a new secure digital drivers' license program for Delaware's Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The contract award includes a five-year initial program and a two-year renewal option, allowing for technology enhancements. The new system will incorporate Viisage's leading facial recognition software, FaceEXPLORER(TM) to help identify attempts at fraudulently obtaining credentials.
Commenting on the award, Bernard Bailey, Viisage Technology's President and CEO, said, "This is our second major contract announcement in less than a month, supporting the fact that Viisage is a premier provider of secure credential solutions to the marketplace. Adding new customers like the state of Delaware is critical to our initiatives to help the nation reduce identity theft and fraud and enhance Homeland Security."
The Delaware DMV's new program will be comprised of a field-deployed network of Viisage Instant Issue Digital Driver License Workstations, which automate data collection and streamline the issuance of secure credentials. Viisage's FaceEXPLORER software and other new biometric technologies will provide rapid identification and verification of license applicants in support of law enforcement efforts to protect the privacy of Delaware citizens through the reduction of fraud and identity theft. Viisage has partnered with CACI International of Arlington, Virginia, to assist in the development of the interface between the state's drivers' license information systems.
Delaware DMV Director, Mike Shahan, commented on the award, stating, "Without question, Viisage provided us with the most comprehensive solution that would allow us to produce the highly secure credentials needed in today's world. The company offered us a superior technology and the level of expertise, customer service and flexibility that we demanded as part of this project."
Delaware now represents the eighteenth state to enable Viisage digital-identification document production and it becomes the seventh state to implement Viisage biometric technology to enhance drivers' license security.
