Company Adds Experienced Industry Veterans to Key Positions
CHARLOTTE, Michigan, December 3, 2002 - Spartan Motors, Inc.
today announced it has hired Randolph J. Knors as the new director of
operations for the Company's largest subsidiary, Spartan Motors Chassis,
Inc.
The hiring of Knors is the latest in a series of appointments this year that
have deepened the management team at the Spartan Motors Chassis unit. In
March, Richard Schalter was appointed president of Spartan Motors Chassis,
having served for five years as the Company's chief financial officer and
two years as executive vice president. In March, Edward J. Dobbs was
selected to head Spartan Motors Chassis' sales, marketing and customer
service initiatives. Dobbs, who has been with Spartan for four years,
previously was responsible for customer service.
The hiring of Knors adds depth in the area of operations. He comes to
Spartan from leather-manufacturer Eagle Ottawa, where he managed seven North
American plants and more than 3,400 employees. He's also held management
level positions at Tenneco Automotive and Siemens.
"Randy's background and expertise will be important as we look to improve
our manufacturing productivity and product quality while we wage our war on
waste," said John Sztykiel, chief executive officer of Spartan Motors, Inc.
"We have made significant improvements in our operations by implementing
lean manufacturing practices, but there is more work to do in this area. We
will continue to strengthen our team and focus on becoming the lowest
total-cost producer in the industries we serve."
