World Premiere for Volkswagen Tarek at the Essen Motor Show

The new Volkswagen Tarek rally-car which will race at the Dakar Rally 2003 was unveiled at the Essen Motor Show. Excerpts from the press release:

Volkswagen will participate at the 2003 Telefonica Dakar rally with its new Buggy.

Developed in conjunction with Italdesign the 2,20 meters wide buggy was built on a chassis imported from the USA and clothed in carbon-kevlar. The car is powered by a 1,9 liter four-cylinder TDi engine capable of 160 kW (218 bhp) driving the rear-wheels.
