BMW's VALVETRONIC engines receive the "Technology of the Year 2003" award in Japan

On Nov. 19, 2002 the Automotive Researchers' & Journalists' Conference of Japan (RJC) named BMW's VALVETRONIC innovation on the 2002 745i and 745Li "Technology of the Year 2003". According to the vote of the selection committee, the VALVETRONIC system of intake valve control, which dispenses with a traditional throttle, clearly outclassed other nominees such as Honda's HiDS, Volkwagen's W8 engine or Mercedes' centronic brake for example.

Reasons for choosing BMW's outstanding technology as given by the RJC can be summarized with innovative automotive engineering, superior power characteristics and fuel efficiency.

VALVETRONIC is on the forefront of automotive technology at the beginning of the 21st century.

Other categories in this 12th awarding ceremony were domestic "Car of the Year" and import "Car of the year" as well as automotive "Person of the Year".

The RJC is a non-profit organization founded in 1990 and has 83 regular members, which choose a selection committee. Among the 71 Jurors this year were lawyers, managers, journalists, and one university professor. All are related to the world of automobiles.
