TORONTO--Nov. 21, 2002--Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition features full, non-commercial
access to industrial design software in easy-to-use format
Alias/Wavefront(TM), an SGI company, announced the launch today of Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition(TM), a comprehensive combination of software and learning materials that will provide universal access to computer-aided industrial design (CAID) tools for students, digital design novices and industrial design professionals.
Available on current Windows(R) platforms, Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition lets users explore, at their own pace, the experience of bringing ideas to life in an integrated 2D/3D environment.
Full Access, Non-Commercial Use
Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition provides anyone with the desire to learn more about industrial design, or 3D computer graphics in general, a seat of the highly rated Alias(R) Studio(TM) software. Those using Studio Personal Learning Edition will have access to top quality 2D sketching technology, sophisticated NURBS curve and surface modeling tools, and superior photorealistic rendering tools -- all combined in one integrated workflow.
Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition is available for non-commercial use and commencing on December 3 can be ordered at the Alias/Wavefront online store www.aliaswavefront.com/studiople for a nominal fee of US $10.00, plus shipping and handling. The single CD program includes a fully featured, fully functional edition of the most recent Alias Studio release. Central to the experience is a set of learning tools designed to make start up and full exploration of the software a quick, easy and rewarding experience.
For Students and Professional Designers
"For those interested in breaking into the world of industrial design, this is a singular opportunity to discover the power of the industry's leading CAID software," comments Luigi Ferrara, Director of the School of Design at George Brown College and President-Elect of ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). "Aspiring industrial designers and those already in the field looking to move into top tier designing can now equip themselves with the tools, skills and support necessary to move ahead in this era of digital communication."
Web-Based Learning Community
Current support for those using the Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition will take the form of a web-based resource center. This center, located at www.aliaswavefront.com/studiople, will provide free access to learning materials, discussion forums, downloads of free sample files, and galleries in which Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition users may exhibit their projects.
System & Use Requirements
Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition requires Windows(R) 2000 or Windows(R) XP operating systems, Netscape(R) 4.75 or Internet Explorer(R) 5 browsers plus a TCP/IP (if StudioTools(TM) renderers will be used). Also needed is a Pentium(R) processor of at least 600 MHz, 256 Kbytes RAM, a CD drive, an OpenGL(R) graphics card, a 3-button mouse and 750 Mbytes of hard disc space. In addition, a digital stylus and tablet will significantly improve the user's experience.
The Alias Studio Personal Learning Edition restricts users to non-commercial applications through the display of a watermark on images as well as through the use of a special non-commercial file format which allows import of native Studio data and IGES, VDA and DXF(TM) files.
