EM Microelectronic Releases Ultra-Low-Power, Low-Voltage Microcontrollers With 4 MUX LCD Driver
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Nov. 19, 2002--EM Microelectronic has released the EM6625 and EM6626, two new microcontrollers with a built-in 4 MUX LCD driver consuming only 0.4uA and operating at 1.2V.
These circuits are part of EM's new generation of cost-effective ROM mask microcontroller devices. They are perfect for controlling functions in battery-operated devices and cost-sensitive applications, including toys, household appliances, sports timing devices, security devices and medical devices.
The EM6625/26 microcontrollers' supply voltage ranges from 1.2V to 3.6V, making them ideal for applications running on a 1.5V battery. These circuits include internal voltage regulators, so they have constant low-power consumption even in noisy environments. The EM6625/26 circuits consume only 1.6uA in active mode and 0.4uA in the standby mode (LCD off) and 0.2uA in sleep mode. They also include a melody generator that can be used for basic sound generation.
The EM6625 drives 20 segments, three or four times multiplexed, while the EM6626 drives 32 segments, three or four times multiplexed. These microcontrollers have LCD frequencies of 32, 42.7 or 64HZ, allowing them to avoid interferences with harmonics in RF and communication applications.
Key features include:
-- | True low current -- EM6625 current is 1.6uA active mode, 0.4uA standby mode, 0.2uA sleep mode; EM6626 current is 1.8uA active mode, 0.4uA standby mode, 0.2uA sleep mode. |
-- | Low voltage -- 1.2V to 3.6V |
-- | Melody generator (seven tones + silence) |
-- | 32kHz/128kHz crystal oscillator |
-- | Mask ROM 4k X 16 bits, RAM 128 X 4 bits |
-- | LCD frequency of 32Hz/42.7Hz/64Hz |
-- | LCD segments: EM6625 is 20 segments, three or four times multiplexed; EM6626 is 32 segments, three or four times multiplexed |
-- | Temperature-compensated LCD voltage levels |
-- | Free LCD segment allocation |
-- | Supply voltage detector, eight levels software selectable from 1.2V to 4.0V |
-- | Maximum 12 inputs; port A, port B, port SPI |
-- | Maximum 8 outputs; port B, port SPI |
-- | 8-bit SPI, 3-wire serial port, master and slave mode |
-- | 10-bit universal counter, PWM function |
-- | Millisecond counter (BCD) |
The EM6625/26 microcontrollers are ideal for controlling tasks in battery-powered toys, household appliances, body-care products and interactive systems with displays.
Tools, Availability and Pricing
For development, a well-proven emulator and simulator are available using Windows-based software programs. The EM6625/26 pricing starts at $1.10 each in quantities of 50,000 units. These microcontrollers are available now from EM and its authorized distributors in 52-pin and 64-pin TQFP packages as well as in die form. MFP (MTP) versions are also available for development.
