Competitive Technologies Announces Innovative Automotive Safety Systems

FAIRFIELD, Conn., Nov. 18, 2002; Competitive Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has signed an agreement as licensing agent for two new patented electronic vehicle safety devices: a brake light emergency-stop warning system, and a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) technology that warns of rollover possibility. CTT will offer non-exclusive licenses for the two technologies patented by Craig Carlson.

John B. Nano, President and CEO of CTT said, "These life-saving technologies are another example of CTT finding answers to the needs of the market. The growth in new emerging technologies provides the raw material that drives our business. CTT's strategy is to find needed technologies and turn them into commercial dollars. We continue to leverage our unique position in the $150 billion market for technology licensing and strengthening shareholder value. Discussions are already underway with potential licensees for these products."

The emergency-stop warning system is completely self-contained and plugs into the existing center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) wiring of virtually any vehicle. This new system senses rapid vehicle deceleration and enhances current technology. It signals sudden stops or emergency braking with an alternate left-right flashing light in addition to the steady illumination of the CHMSL unit. The patented design includes an adjustment for inclination of the vehicle so that normal stopping on a steep hill is distinguished from emergency stopping. It is the only patent offering this unique error-correcting sensor.

The MEMS vehicle rollover technology senses a dangerous inclination of the vehicle and warns the driver of imminent danger. The low cost, sophisticated sensor and configuration electronics is designed to fit inside the vehicle's rear-view mirror. The new technology is applicable in all vehicles, including off-road, SUVs, motor homes and even heavy trucks.
