Accident ends season early for Team Target

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (November 18, 2002) - In the last race of the 2003 NASCAR
Winston Cup Series, driver Jimmy Spencer and Team Target found more of the
tough luck they have had all year. Spencer, after running in the top-10 for
the entire race, wrecked on lap 192 and finished the Ford 400 at
Homestead-Miami Speedway in 42nd place.

Spencer qualified the Target Dodge in third position on Friday - his best
qualifying effort of the season. He constantly raced in the top-10 the
entire race, running as high as second place.

As Spencer raced to the front on the track, the Team Target crew matched him
by putting him out front in the pits. In their last two pit stops prior to
the accident, Team Target pulled off a 14.65 second stop and a 13.89 second
stop.

"I got up there to second, and I was catching Joe (Nemechek)," Spencer said
following the accident. "It got real loose in (turns) one and two, and then
it got real loose again. Dale Jarrett got underneath me. I knew something
was going wrong, and then it got away from me."

"I love my guys," Spencer said of his crew. "I've had a tough year, and I
think they did. We had a good car today. We had the best Dodge. Our car was
really good on long runs, and I felt like I had a good opportunity to win
the race. I really wanted to win before the year was over. I said I could,
but we didn't. It's been a tough year."

Spencer ends the season 27th in NASCAR Winston Cup Championship points.
