Graduates of Jim Russell Racing Drivers School Chosen in Red Bull Formula One Driver Search
SONOMA, Calif.--Nov. 14, 2002--Thanks to the expert training at Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, recent graduates Scott Speed, of Manteca, Calif., and Joel Nelson, of Reno, Nevada, have secured two of the coveted four finalist positions in Red Bull's Formula One Driver Search.At 19 years of age, Speed is the youngest driver on the Red Bull Formula One Team. The two leave for Europe to begin training this month.
Speed and Nelson both graduated from the acclaimed Jim Russell Racing Drivers School and participated in the USAC Formula Russell Championship Series. They will now take their Russell experience onto the Red Bull program that provides funding to compete in the European Junior Formula in 2003.
"Joel and Scott are great examples of how perseverance can pay off in the sport of auto racing," said Mark Wolocatiuk, director of instruction at Jim Russell Racing Drivers School. "They both emerged as great racers during the championship series, and we look forward to great things from both of them."
The European Junior Formula gives these two up-and-coming drivers invaluable training and exposure throughout Europe, the birthplace of Formula car racing.
