ANGELA'S MOTORSPORTS TO FIELD TWO CARS IN MIAMI
HOMESTEAD, FL.-Angela's Motorsports has decided to double its presence in
the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division at the Ford 300 season finale
at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. The wiredflyer.com sponsored team
will consist of two cars, with two experienced drivers: Jay Sauter and Kevin
Lepage.
"Wiredflyer.com contacted us over the weekend and told us that they
wanted to field two cars for the last race," said team-owner Angela Harkness.
"Kevin has helped us tremendously with the formation of this team so we
wanted to give him a chance, as well as Jay. Our goal is to see both cars
qualify for the event, and in turn give wiredflyer.com twice the exposure."
Lepage will pilot the No. 71 wiredflyer.com Ford at the 1.5-mile oval,
with Richard Lasater as crew chief. Lepage won his first career Busch Series
race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 1996. He has competed at the track seven
times, twice in the Winston Cup Series.
Lepage has competed in the Busch Series this year in the Brewco
Motorsports owned No. 37. In 23 starts, with Brewco, Lepage has three
top-five and six top-10 finishes.
Sauter will remain the driver of the No. 02 wiredflyer.com Ford, with
crew chief Bobby Leslie. He has competed six times at Homestead, his best
finish was third in 1998 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Sauter began
the 2002 season sharing driving duties with Jeff Green in the No. 21 Richard
Childress Racing car. This season he has posted one top-five and three top-10
finishes in 12 starts.
Sauter attempted to qualify for the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 last week at
Phoenix International Raceway, but failed to make the field by .04 seconds.
However, the team's confidence level is significantly higher heading into the
season finale. Sauter recently posted the fastest lap in the No. 02
wiredflyer.com entry during a test session at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
"The test at Homestead went really well," Sauter said. "We had a chance
to try new setups and experiment with the car a little bit. It also gave the
team a chance to gel. The car was fast, which we were tremendously happy
with. I know we can run well here this weekend."
With Sauter's recent test session and Lepage's successful history at
Homestead, Angela's Motorsports and wiredflyer.com are hoping that two cars
will double their chance at success.
