#41NASCAR Phoenix Race Report
AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 10, 2002) - Jimmy Spencer, driver of the No. 41
Target Dodge, finished 23rd in the Checker Auto Parts 500K at Phoenix
International Raceway. Spencer remains in 27th place in Winston Cup
Championship points.
Spencer qualified the Target Dodge in 10th position on Friday. Within the
first 20 laps of Sunday's race, Spencer radioed in to crew chief Doug
Randolph that the car was loose getting into the corners and the front tires
were not gripping.
During pit stops, Team Target used trackbar and air pressure adjustments to
help give the car more grip in the corners. Unfortunately, Spencer
continuously fell back through the pack, finishing the race two laps down in
23rd position.
"We just couldn't get the car right in the corners today," Spencer said
after the race. "We had a great qualifying effort this weekend with the
Target Dodge but unfortunately we weren't able to push that over to the race
today. We're headed to the last race of the season next weekend in Homestead
and looking for a good outcome."
Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the last Winston Cup race
of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 17.
