SHANE LEWIS WINS DAYTONA GRAND-AM FINALE

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Sunday, November 10, 2002 - Shane Lewis drove to his
second Grand-Am Cup victory of the season in the series’ season-finale at
Daytona International Speedway (DIS). The Jupiter, Florida resident, driving
the Florida-based Grand Sport II (GS II) #65 SpeedSource Porsche, with
co-driver David Shep, started sixth and cut through the field holding the
lead several times in the six-hour endurance event around Daytona’s famous
road course. The duo would go on to take the car’s first win by four laps
over second place finishing ninth overall while completing 153 laps. This
win adds to Lewis’ early-season GS I victory at Phoenix International
Raceway.

Making the day even more dramatic was a spectacular fire that engulfed the
car during its first pit stop. The SpeedSource team and Daytona safety
workers quickly extinguished the blaze and completed service on the car.
Shep, who had just taken over driving duties from Lewis, would return the
car to the track losing less than a minute to the fire.

“This is a great win,” enthused Lewis following the victory lane
celebration. “When we came in for our first stop and the car burst into
flames who would have thought we’d be sitting here [winner’s circle] at the
end of the day? Certainly not me! We knew that the SpeedSource Porsche didn’
t have the outright horsepower to win the class but you never count-out a
911 at Daytona! We approached this one like a chess match. It was fun, a
real mental race. The car ran well all day and the SpeedSource guys did an
awesome job with preparation and pit stops. David did a super job as my
co-driver and we just kept our heads down and worked all race long. When we
looked up we had the win. Perseverance and preparation pays off. Overcoming
the fire and the competition wasn’t easy but that makes this win even
sweeter! Anytime you can win at Daytona it’s great and it’s nice to have a
win to keep me warm over the winter.”

Saturday’s victory brings Lewis’ Grand-Am sanctioned wins for the season to
three. Adding to his pair of Grand-Am Cup wins he also drove to victory in a
special Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series invitational GS II class at 6
Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant.

Shane Lewis has been racing since 1989. He is the 1998 Professional Sports
Car Rising Star award winner and has multiple race wins in IMSA, SCCA Pro
and Grand-Am sanctioned events. This former Daytona Endurance Champion has
driven in 16 24-hour races including two 24 Hours of Le Mans, six 24 Hours
of Daytona and six 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2002, he competed in the GS I and
GS II classes of the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series and also raced in the
American Le Mans Series where he has earned multiple podiums and top-five
finishes.
