Goodyear Pit Crew Challenge
Fayetteville, GA (November 5, 2002) - USA International Speedway is ready to host the 2nd Annual Goodyear Pit Crew Challenge for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series later this month during festivities for the Four Champions Memorial Hooters 300.
"We are pleased Goodyear and Larry Robinson Enterprises have decided to continue this special event," said Series Director Tony Cox. "Goodyear Tires and USAR enjoyed a very successful event last year. The Goodyear Pit Crew Challenge highlights the efforts of our USAR crews and drivers."
The format, which was set up by USAR and Goodyear representatives, will once again offer the top-five finishing teams from the final regular season point standings, in both Northern and Southern divisions, an opportunity to win a total of over $15,000 in posted awards for the team members. Goodyear will award a possible $10,000 in cash awards while several contingency sponsors have supplied over $5,000 in other awards. Contingency sponsors include: DRP Performance, Heintz Performance, BSR Products, CV Products, Lowe Lug Nuts, Tri-Star Racewear, Brunnhoezl Pit Equipment, Pit Gear Custom Covers, and Ringer Gloves.
"Larry Robinson Enterprises and Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Co. have enjoyed a long lasting and successful relationship with USAR and the Hooters ProCup Series," said Larry Robinson. "We wanted to have an event to showcase the talents of the crew members who perform pit stops each week during the season and reward the top-performing teams."
The 10 teams will set up their respective pit stalls in accordance to how they finished in regular season point standings. Each driver will then drive their car to their pit stalls and a total of six team members will perform the pit stop in timed conditions.
One crewmember will hold the pit board, while two tire changers, two tire carriers and one jack man will change four Goodyear Eagles during the pit stop. The team with the fastest pit stop time will win $4,000. The second place team will collect $3,000 and the third place team will take home $2,000 for their efforts.
New to the format this season will be a $1,000 bonus if the winning team tops the best time set last year by Gill Racing by more than one second. The winning time last year was 25.74 seconds.
