Cummins Inc. Receives 2002 Business Childcare Award; Indiana Lt. Governor Joe Kernan Presents Award

COLUMBUS, Ind.--Nov. 4, 2002--Cummins Inc. today announced it has received one of the 2002 Business Childcare awards from Indiana Lieutenant Governor Joe Kernan. The annual award honors companies that provide child care benefits for their employees. Cummins was among eight Indiana companies to receive this honor.
The Cummins Child Development Center, opened in July 2001, provides childcare services for about 150 children, age 6 weeks to kindergarten. The services are open to both children of Cummins employees and children in the community whose parents are not Cummins employees, as vacancies occur. The investment in the childcare center demonstrates Cummins corporate responsibility to serve and improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work.
"Access to quality childcare is fundamental for any working parent," said Kernan, who also serves as Director of the Indiana Department of Commerce. "Through the Cummins Child Development Center, the company provides infant, toddler and preschool care and education, pre-kindergarten; summer camp; backup daycare; and parental support services including a resource library and a parents' night out program."
The center has received numerous awards including the Family Life Enhancement Award from Clarion, the Bureau and Apprenticeship Training Certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor and a 5-Star designation under Governor Frank O'Bannon's Environmental Recognition Program.
