Sarvis Dominates at Peach State Speedway
Myrtle Beach Driver Takes Over Lead in Standings
 

 

            

            Jefferson, GA (November 2, 2002) -            Now is the time to get hot and no one is hotter in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series than Jason Sarvis. Sarvis won the Dan Duncan Memorial Naturally Fresh Kids Ranch 250 presented by Aneco Electric Saturday night at Peach State Speedway. Sarvis outdistanced his teammate Hal Goodson for his second consecutive win in the Championship Series. The win gives Sarvis four career-wins in the Series, all this season. 

            Bobby Gill and Brian Ross each recorded their best finishes so far in the Championship Series as they finished third and fourth, respectively. Steven Christian rebounded from in a mid-race accident to complete the top-five. 

For Sarvis, the win was just as sweet as two weeks ago at Myrtle Beach Speedway for two reasons - the points lead in the chase for the 2002 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Championship and a minimum of $10,000 in bonus money provided in the Naturally Fresh Challenge for any driver who can win any two of the Championship Series events. Sarvis could increase the bonus to $25,000 if he wins the season finale at USA International Speedway later this month.

            "I can't believe we have done this again," said Sarvis. "We had another great car here tonight and my guys have worked so hard all year long. We would like to thank Naturally Fresh Foods and Black's Tire Service for all of their support; without them I wouldn't be here tonight."

            The race was slowed eight times by caution highlighted by an accident on lap 125 that involved 15 cars on the front stretch. Another accident on lap 104 shook up the standings in the points chase when Clay Rogers, the points leader entering the night, and top-10 contender Shane Huffman each suffered major damage to their cars and finished 28th and 26th, respectively.

            With his consecutive wins Sarvis has vaulted into the lead in the race for the $250,000 first place prize out of the $1 million purse awarded in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Championship race. Sarvis leaves Georgia with a 48-point lead over Steven Christian, 713-665. Rogers was able to hold onto third place after his troubles and sits third. Three-time defending Series champion Gill rebounded from a disappointing finish at Myrtle Beach to finish 3rd at Peach State Speedway and now sits fourth in the standings and Jay Fogleman and Hal Goodson are tied for fifth.

            Sarvis won the Buffalo Nickel Buffal Burger Pole Award and in the process set a new mark in the Series for most pole awards won in a season with eight. Sarvis also won the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award and the Southern Pride Lap Leader Award for leading the most laps.

            Brian Ross used his first top-five finish of the Championship Series to garner Rookie of the Race honors and Forrest Urban, Jr. advanced 18 positions to win the W.J. Plemons Investments Hard Charger of the Race Award.

            The season finale for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series will be held on Saturday November 30 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL with Sarvis the odds on favorite to capture the title. Sarvis has won the past two USAR Hooters ProCup Series races held at the home track for the Series.
