Tele Atlas to Provide Maps for Becker Navigation Systems

    MENLO PARK, Calif.--Nov. 4, 2002--Tele Atlas, the global leader in the development of state-of-the-art geographic databases, has just finalized a worldwide agreement with Harman International Industries, Incorporated , under the brand name Becker, one of the leading providers of car navigation systems.
    From the middle of next year on, Harman will bundle CDs containing Tele Atlas maps of Europe in its retrofit navigation systems (i.e. fitted after buying the car). Car dealers, car accessory retailers, home electronic stores and a host of other distribution channels sell these throughout Europe. Tele Atlas digital maps on DVD and CD will also be available for OEM navigation systems -- built and integrated into new cars -- that Harman manufactures for the car industry, starting with the model year 2004.
    With this agreement, Tele Atlas now cooperates with all leading suppliers of car navigation systems in Europe. Rolv Eide, Chief Operating Officer of Tele Atlas, views this as "one more important step in our effort to widen our offering to the key manufacturers of navigation systems. Meeting the direct request of the car manufacturers, we are now making Tele Atlas data available for the Harman system, and we are looking forward to extending our cooperation into other markets, such as North America."
