ROUGH DAY FOR TEAM TARGET AT 'THE ROCK'
Spencer finishes 31st in the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (November 4, 2002) - Handling problems with the No. 41
Target Dodge relegated Jimmy Spencer and Team Target to a 31st place finish
in the Pop Secret 400 at North Carolina Speedway. Spencer remains in 27th
place in Winston Cup driver championship points.
Out of 48 car entries, Spencer qualified his Target Dodge in 15th position
during Friday's qualifying event. At the start of the 393-lap race on
Sunday afternoon, Spencer radioed in early stating that his car was not
handling well. Team Target worked on adjusting and balancing the car all
day but could never get it quite perfect.
Johnny Benson, driver of the No. 10 Valvoline Pontiac, won the Pop Secret
Microwave Popcorn 400; his first career Winston Cup win. Next on the
schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix
International Raceway on November 10, 2002.
Also during the Rockingham race weekend, Team Target participated in the 76
World Championship pit crew competition at North Carolina Speedway. The
crew finished 22nd out of 25 crews in the competition. They had two loose
lug nuts relegating them at a 28.599 score on a four tire and fuel pit stop.
Matt Kenseth's team won the competition with a 16.823 pit stop.
