Chrysler Group Reports U.S. October Sales - They Stink!
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 1, 2002; Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 150,254 units in October 2002, a 31 percent decline compared to October 2001, when 209,478 vehicles were sold. All percentages were calculated on a day-rate basis, with 27 selling days in October 2002, versus 26 days in October 2001.
"Last month's year-over-year sales comparison was not unexpected. The industry hit an all-time record seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 21.5 million vehicles in October 2001," said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President - Sales. "The industry will be well short of that in October 2002."
In the high-volume, highly competitive truck segment, Dodge Ram held its own with sales of 28,218 units. For the calendar year, Ram truck posted sales of 331,537 units compared to last year when there were 287,344 units sold, an increase of 44,193 units or 15 percent. "The all-new Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks are in dealer showrooms now and selling as fast as they are arriving," said Dilts.
Dodge Neon had another solid sales month with 9,173 units sold, up 19 percent compared to last year. This is the fifth consecutive month Neon has reported positive sales.
"Even with October's sales numbers down compared to last year's uncharacteristically high results, we remain optimistic that we have the products consumers desire, and we back them with our seven-year / 70,000-mile powertrain warranty, the best in the industry," added Dilts.
