Toyota Plans to Sell 6.2 Million Vehicles This Year

DETROIT October 21, 2002, Norihiko Shirouzu writing for the WSJ reports that Toyota Motor Corp. , which grabbed a 10% share of the world's auto market last year, will boost its global sales to about 6.2 million vehicles this year, assuming that the auto maker sustains the pace of growth it has seen in the first eight months, according to a Toyota official.

During the January-to-August period, Toyota sold 4.15 million vehicles including those by its subsidiaries in Japan, Daihatsu Motor Co. and Hino Motors Ltd. That's up about 4% from a year earlier. Last year, Toyota sold 5.93 million vehicles around the world, about 10% of some 59 million vehicles produced and marketed globally by auto makers.
