Continental Teves Demonstrates Automotive Electronics Expertise at Convergence 2002
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 16 -- Continental Teves, a unit of Continental AG, and its Conti Temic electronics business unit, will be a prominent part of Convergence 2002, the premier global transportation electronics conference. The conference will be held October 21-23, 2002 at Detroit's Cobo Center. "Continental Teves is one of the world's leading suppliers of electronic safety technologies," said Bill Kozyra, president and CEO, Continental Teves North America. "The electronic backbone of many of these technologies are the sensors, motors and other components that our Conti Temic division supplies. In fact, our Temic business continues to grow rapidly as we integrate Temic's electronics expertise with the rest of our advanced brake and chassis technologies."
Highlighting Continental's involvement at Convergence 2002 will be the keynote address after lunch on Monday, October 21. Dr. Wolfgang Ziebart, deputy chairman of Continental AG, will discuss the impact of technological developments on OEM-supplier relationships. Also Monday, Kozyra will join five other industry leaders on Convergence's traditional Blue Ribbon Panel at 10:00 a.m. Panelists will address "Invention, Innovation and Integration = The Future of Transportation Electronics." Both events will be held in Cobo's Riverview Ballroom. Dr. Peter Reith, vice president, Technology and Vehicles Systems and a member of the Management Board for Continental Teves AG, will present a paper on how Continental is integrating its technologies to reduce vehicle stopping distance in the Safety Innovations track of the technical program. Dr. Rieth's presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at 9:30 a.m. in Room O3-45.
In addition to these prestigious speaking opportunities, Conti Temic will display a number of its technologies in its booth (#943) on the exhibit floor. Among these will be:
Gateway: This stand-alone unit can be mounted virtually anywhere within the vehicle and connects the different buses, translating protocols and commands up and down the vehicle information chain. The Conti Temic Gateway will help simplify integration by ensuring that critical data is shared between the various systems. Automotive Distance Control Technologies: Continental is developing a number of driver safety and comfort technologies that support the "intelligent vehicle." Among these are: camera-based "lanekeeping" systems that notify drivers when their vehicles are straying from their lane; radar-based parking assistance technologies with braking intervention to help drivers navigate their way through difficult parking maneuvers; and stop-and-go systems that work in conjunction with Intelligent Cruise Control technology to provide driver support in slow-moving traffic. Occupant Safety Technologies: Continental is hard at work developing sensors that improve occupant safety by providing early detection of possible impact. These pre-crash sensors, which will also be on display at Convergence 2002, activate vehicle safety systems as well as pedestrian protection systems. Continental Teves, headquartered in Frankfurt/Main Germany, is a unit of Continental AG, Hanover, Germany. With 2001 sales of approximately $10 billion (US), Continental is a world leader in the design, development and supply of critical brake and chassis systems that contribute to driving safety and comfort. Continental Teves' North American component is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich. For additional information, visit the website: www.conti-online.com .
