AAA Texas Announces Free Car Inspection During National Car Care Month in October; Offer at AAA Texas Approved Auto Repair Shops
HOUSTON--Oct. 16, 2002--Summer is over. Fall is here, and so is the need to prepare your car for fall and winter weather. AAA Texas has a free offer during National Car Care Month to help motorists get their vehicles ready.During October, AAA Texas and nearly 200 of its Approved Auto Repair (AAR) facilities are offering free 38-point vehicle inspections to members and the public. It covers everything from lights, lubricants, and fluids, to batteries, belts, pulleys, hoses, filters and even tire-tread depth.
"The best time to check out a repair facility is before you really need one," said Patrick O'Reilly, manager of AAA Texas' Approved Auto Repair division. "Motorists with an appointment will usually need no more than 15 minutes to have their vehicle looked at by a professional technician. A professional can quickly determine if any maintenance or repairs have been overlooked and need to be performed."
Vehicle inspections should include the following:
-- | Check all fluid levels, vehicle lights and belts and hoses. Refill, replace or adjust as necessary. |
-- | Inspect and replace wiper blades if they are more than six months old. |
-- | Look at the level and condition of the oil. Change the oil according to manufacturer's specifications. Older vehicles will require more frequent oil changes. |
-- | Check the coolant. Flush and refill engine coolant if it has been more than three years since the last coolant change. |
-- | Inspect tires regardless of vehicle age or mileage for wear and under-inflation, and check brakes if the vehicle has more than 30,000 miles on the odometer or it has been more than 30,000 miles since the last brake job. |
"A good place to learn about maintaining a vehicle is as near as the owner's manual in your glove compartment," O'Reilly added. "For specific maintenance information about the vehicle you drive, there is no more authoritative source."
For reliable assistance with vehicle repairs and maintenance, AAA Texas has identified a network of Approved Auto Repair facilities that include car dealerships and independent repair shops. These shops meet AAA's strict quality standards and display the AAA Texas logo.
You can find a facility near you by calling 1.800.713.0003 or a search at www.aaa-texas.com will provide AAA members with the names, locations and phone numbers of approved facilities.
