Navistar International Corporation Appoints Two New Directors

WARRENVILLE, Ill., Oct. 15, 2002; Navistar International Corporation the nation's largest commercial truck, school bus and mid-range diesel engine producer, today announced that James H. Keyes, chairman of Johnson Controls, Inc. and Eugenio Clariond, chairman and chief executive officer of Grupo IMSA, have been named to the company's board of directors effective immediately.

The selection of Keyes and Clariond increases the number of Navistar directors to 14. Both will be up for election at the annual meeting of shareowners in 2003.

Keyes, 62, joined Johnson Controls in 1966. He was elected president in 1986, chief executive officer in 1988 and served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1993 until September 30, 2002. He continues as chairman of the board.

Under his leadership, Johnson Controls became a global market leader in automotive systems and facility management and control. Headquartered in Milwaukee, the company has more than 110,000 employees and annual sales of $18.4 billion in 2001. Keyes is a past chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers.

Clariond, 59, has been chief executive officer of Grupa IMSA since 1984 and is extremely active in the Mexican business community. He serves as a director of a number of other Mexican corporations as well as Texas Industries, Inc. He also is vice chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and vice president of the Mexican chapter of the Latin American Business Council.

Grupo IMSA is headquartered in Monterey, Mexico and produces steel processed products, aluminum extrusion products and a wide range of automotive batteries. Founded 50 years ago, the company reported 2001 revenues of $2.3 billion, of which nearly 45 percent was generated outside Mexico.
