UAW-GM QUALITY 500 QUALIFYING RESULTS
CONCORD, N.C. (October 11, 2002) - Qualifying for the UAW-GM Quality 500 at
Lowe's Motor Speedway was delayed Thursday evening and then cancelled Friday
morning due to rain. The starting line-up will be determined by the 2002
car owner points standings.
Jamie McMurray, replacement driver of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid
R/T, will start in fifth position for Sunday's event. Sterling Marlin
suffered a non-displaced fracture of the #2 cervical vertebra as a result of
his accident at Kansas Speedway on September 29. He will not compete for
the remainder of the 2002 Winston Cup season.
The UAW-GM Quality 500 will be McMurray's second race as a Winston Cup
driver, but will mark the first time the Joplin, Mo. native will be pulling
"double duty" during a NASCAR racing weekend. McMurray, currently a Busch
Series regular, will pilot the No. 27 entry in Saturday's Little Trees 300
before jumping behind the wheel of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge for Sunday's
UAW-GM Quality 500.
Jimmy Spencer, driver of the No. 41 Fujifilm Dodge Intrepid R/T, will start
in 23rd position. In 25 starts at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Spencer has one
top-5 finish and five top-10 finishes. He has won the pole once (10/7/01)
and never won at the track. Spencer was 31st fastest in the first practice
on Thursday with a fast lap time of 29.746 seconds.
Target Chip Ganassi Racing is featuring a new paint scheme for the UAW-GM
Quality 500. The recognizable green, white and red of Fuji Photo Film
U.S.A., Inc., is the featured artwork on the No. 41 Dodge driven by Jimmy
Spencer for this one event.
"Racing is the perfect outlet to match the advanced technology and endurance
of Fujifilm products with the speed and reliability associated with Chip
Ganassi Racing," said David Bailey, Vice President of National Accounts in
Fujifilm's Consumer Markets Division. "Although Fujifilm's green boxes of
film are recognizable around the globe, the company is about more than just
film. We're excited to showcase these aspects of Fujifilm at this race."
The UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway will be broadcast live on
NBC on Sunday, October 13 at 12:15 p.m., e.d.t.
