G&W Motorsports Appointed Technical Advisor for Picchio
ALTON, Va. (October 11, 2002) -- G&W Motorsports has been appointed as the technical advisor to Picchio for the new Daytona Prototype through the official importer Momentum Motorcars. Momentum has made this move in order to help service the needs of Picchio customers competing in the Rolex Sports Car Series' new Daytona Prototype class.
In order to meet critical timelines and provide Picchio DP2 customers with the best in support, G&W will assemble the Picchio Daytona Prototype's components and provide storage facilities for critical spares to shorten lead times and provide more accessible service at the team's headquarters at Viriginia International Raceway.
The "production" DP2 will be shipped without some final parts, many of which have been sourced in the U.S. These parts include the rear wing, side pods, wheel hub, bearing parts, windshield, side windows, wheels, tires, engine, data acquisition, wiring loom, radiators, fuel cell, fuel pumps and shocks.
"Not only will we be able to control the timeline to get a finished car to the customer, we will become even more familiar with the new car and add a few finishing touches to Picchio's fabulous design," noted G&W Motorsports owner Cole Scrogham. "When you have people of the quality of Price Cobb in your corner, you have to utilize their experience, let them participate in the final touches and shake down the pre-delivery car at a proper racing circuit. We have all of those resources here at VIR, which only complement the resources of Picchio in design and engineering."
The manufacturer will also provide an English-language parts catalog in internet and CD-ROM versions that can be quickly checked and ordered through G&W personnel. The parts inventory will be maintained by G&W and available at the track or shipped from the VIR location.
"We thought that this was the most convenient method for customers to get fast and reliable service from someone that is in a central location on East Coast time and has intimate knowledge of the car and parts," remarked Armando Trentini of Momentum Motorcars.
Parts will be housed in the G&W transporter for track delivery, with a devoted service vehicle planned for the future. Freight forwarding services have been pre-arranged through D'Amici International, which will handle movement of both cars and spares between Italy and the U.S. Though a complete inventory will be available at G&W, D'Amici has the capability of two-day air through two-week shipping at varying costs to ensure a steady flow of spare parts.
This partnership package includes the cooperation of USI Insurance and Financial Services, which will allow new Picchio team owners the opportunity to explore business to business contacts. These contacts can provide sponsorship to the teams at a variety of levels, providing a novel approach to funding their racing efforts.
