Alex Job Racing - Petit Le Mans test
Oct. 9, 2002
Alex Job Racing topped the GT times during testing for Saturday's Petit Le
Mans at Road Atlanta, final race in the 2002 American Le Mans Series. Lucas
Luhr was quickest with a lap time of one minute 23.467 seconds in the No. 23
McKenna Xybernaut Porshe he drives with Sascha Maassen. Their teammates Jörg
Bergmeister, Timo Bernhard and Marc Lieb were close behind in the No. 22
Porsche (1:24.822).
What does it take to be fast on the 1.54-mile road course? "To go quick it's
pretty easy - it takes a heavy right foot!" Luhr said. "Today I had a
problem that our car was rolling a bit, so we need to work on the setup. To
go quick you need to be constant and that's why we need to work a bit on our
car. But for the first session, the car was pretty good."
ouch
Marc Lieb had a difficult start to the race week, when an LMP675 prototype
car hit his No. 22 Porsche. The car sustained damage to the right-rear
suspension, exhaust headers and bodywork, but it will be repaired in time for
the first Thursday practice session.
"I was just braking through a normal corner and suddenly I saw there was an
LMP coming," Lieb said. "He obviously had a braking problem, so he couldn't
stop and crashed into me. He told me after, 'Sorry, I couldn't stop, I had
some braking problems.' It's really bad luck."
champion addition
Marc Lieb, who drove with Alex Job Racing at the ALMS season opener in
Sebring, Fla., returns to the team after a strong season in Europe. He
recently won the Porsche Carrera Cup driver championship with four race wins
and three pole positions. He has also collected two victories in the FIA GT
series with Freisinger Porsche.
