Lindley Wins at Jennerstown Speedway

            Jennerstown, PA - October 7, 2002; Mardy Lindley held off a hard-charging Jay Fogleman on a green-white-checkered finish to win the Charlie Campbell Memorial Miller Lite 250 presented by Hooters ProCup Racing Game Saturday night at Jennerstown Speedway. The win was the fourth of the season for the second-generation driver from Taylors, SC.

            Lindley felt his win was an "absolute necessity" if he was going to get back in the chase for the 2002 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Championship.

            "After suffering mechanical trouble and tearing up our car at Winchester Speedway two weeks ago this win couldn't have come at a better time for us," said Lindley. "We had a very good car tonight and I think we had what we needed to hold Jay back but I didn't want to see the caution flag come out there at the end."

            Lindley was making reference to suffering a DNF at Winchester Speedway two weeks ago in the opening round of the Championship Series for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. Lindley qualified in the third position and remained near the front of the pack until he over took Clay Rogers for the lead just past the halfway point of the race.

            "We made our pit stop before halfway during a caution because we thought track position would later be important," Lindley added. "We needed this win badly tonight and we were glad to put the Hooters Ford into victory lane."

            The race was slowed nine times by caution for 57 laps with several drivers suffering damage to their cars but more importantly to their position in the point standings. Jason Sarvis was one driver who got caught up in an accident and made heavy contact with Jeff Oakley on lap 49. He would later return to the race and finish only five laps down, however he finished 32nd dropping him five positions in the point standings.

            Fogleman sounded like he had won the race although he finished second to Lindley.

            "We will take this second place finish and we are very happy with it," said Fogleman. "We had a battery go bad and we made several pit stops under caution and my great crew worked hard to put our Lucas Oil Ford in a position to challenge for the win. We moved up some in the points and now we are going to some tracks were I have some experience so we are excited to be heading South."

            Rogers added the Sunoco Pole Award, Lucas Oil Halfway Products and Southern Pride Lap Leader bonuses to his winnings but more importantly collected bonus points for leading the most laps and halfway. Rogers now takes over the lead in the point standings by 18 points over Shane Huffman (423-405).

            Huffman finished sixth and Joe Gaita followed in seventh. Jeff Agnew, Mart Nesbitt and Michael Ritch completed the top-10. Gaita used his first top-10 finish since July to win the Miller Lite Rookie of the Race Award. Andrew Medlin continued his consistent run in the Championship Series winning the W.J. Plemons Investments Hard Charger Award advancing 15 positions.

            The Championship Series will now travel to Myrtle Beach Speedway in two weeks for race #3 of the five-race playoff.
