Latest DOCSIS Certification Results Reinforce Microtune's RF Leadership in Supplying to Cable Modem Manufacturers
PLANO, Texas--Oct. 7, 2002--Continuing its success rate, Microtune(R), Inc. todAY announced that seven out of nine new cable modems earning 1.1 certification in the 23rd round of CableLabs(R) DOCSIS(TM) testing were based on Microtune's radio frequency (RF) silicon and systems tuner technologies. Included among these was a cable modem from Belkin Corporation, a leading manufacturer of retail computer connectivity products, which achieved its first cable modem DOCSIS qualification success in this wave.

Cable access devices deploying Microtune RF technology were also submitted in the practice rounds for DOCSIS 2.0 and CableHome(TM) testing. Designed to support the next generation of cable specifications, these cable modems enable an expanded range of advanced IP-based cable services, including cable telephony, multimedia and cable in-home networking. Microtune's silicon and systems products, engineered to support robust video, voice and data services, meet the stringent RF requirements needed to allow cable modems to pass the 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 versions of the DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS standards, as well as CableHome and PacketCable(TM) specifications.
Microtune, the holder of multiple patents for its single-chip tuner and amplifier architectures, provided the RF components that enabled tuning, receiving and transmitting functionality in the cable modems' systems electronics.
With this most recent CableLabs certification activity, Microtune's silicon and systems technology continues to dominate the RF market in DOCSIS-certified cable access products. The company has provided the tuner-receiver solution in one or more models for 43 of the 69 companies that have been awarded DOCSIS or EuroDOCSIS certification. Additionally, Microtune's tuners have now been combined with demodulators from four of the leading demodulator manufacturers in DOCSIS cable modems achieving 1.1 certification, including three in the latest round of testing.
