TEAM TARGET FINISHES 21st AT TALLADEGA
Spencer remains 26th in Winston Cup championship points race
TALLADEGA, Ala. (October 7, 2002) - The No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T
driven by Jimmy Spencer finished in 21st place in the EA Sports 500 at
Talladega Superspeedway. Spencer remains in 26th place in the Winston Cup
championship points race.
Qualifying for the EA Sports 500 was cancelled Friday due to rain and the
field was set according to owner's points, putting Spencer in the 24th
starting spot. Spencer raced the Target Dodge in the back of the field for
the first two runs but felt that the car was good enough to move up the
field towards the end of the race. Unfortunately, when that time came, he
could not get the run on the field that he thought. Team Target settled
with a 21st place finish.
"We just never had our car where it would run good," Spencer said following
the race. "We got caught and our fuel mileage wasn't as good as it needed
to be. We had time to get it better, but it just didn't run like it did at
Daytona. It was a tough day. Jamie McMurray (new teammate) ran pretty good
right there at the end. His car wasn't as good as it needed to be, either,
but we got together at the end, and he did a good job bringing it home."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway; his
third Talladega win in a row. Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target
team is the UAW-GM Quality 500 @ Lowe's Motor Speedway on October 13, 2002.
