Montgomery Starting Third at Talladega

Montgomery Starting Third at Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. (October 3, 2002) - ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Chase Montgomery has proved to be a force to be reckoned with on superspeedways.

The 19-year-old was quickest in the morning practice at Talladega Superspeedway with a 51.179, in the newly painted florescent orange and yellow #27 Montgomery Motorsports Pontiac Grand Prix. He then came out and turned the third fastest time in qualifying putting him on the inside of Row 2 for the Food World 300 on Saturday.

"It's not exactly where we wanted to be, but the race is a whole different ballgame," Montgomery said. "We've got a great car that is perfect for this track, so we'll go out there on Saturday and see what we can do."

While several drivers in different series have admitted to being a little hesitant about going all out at Talladega due to its size and speed, Montgomery sees it as just another event on the schedule.

"You hear guys tell horror stories about this place, but it's just another track. You come here with what you've got and hope for the best."

Not only is Montgomery dominating on the superspeedways, he's doing it his first time on the tracks. After sitting on the pole at Daytona International Speedway earlier this season, Montgomery obviously isn't intimidated by the bigger, faster tracks on the circuit.

Montgomery is coming into the last two races fourth in overall driver points and second in the rookie of the year standings.
