Hewland Gearbox Approved for Daytona Prototypes
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 3, 2002) -- Grand American Road Racing Association announced today that the Hewland NLTG gearbox has been approved for usage in the Daytona Prototypes, which will be the premier class of the Rolex Sports Car Series in 2003. English-based Hewland Engineering Limited produces the Hewland NLTG, which joins the RATEC 96T and 96S and EMCO Gears GA 46-P and GA 46-C on the list of approved Daytona Prototype gearboxes.
Mike Hewland, who is generally credited with inventing the modern racing gearbox, founded Hewland Engineering Limited in 1957. The company has supplied race car constructors from around the world ever since, and today is the only company in the world that supplies racing gearboxes to virtually all levels of the sport.
"Hewland is one of the most recognizable transaxle manufacturers in the world. Their experience spans decades of racing, and we are excited to have them join us as we write the latest chapter of sports car history with the Daytona Prototypes," said Daytona Prototype Project Manager Mark Raffauf.
Teams and constructors seeking information or wish to order the approved Hewland NLTG gearbox should contact Hewland Engineering Sales Manager Steve Clews via email at sales@hewland-engineering.co.uk or by calling Hewland's English offices at 44-1628-827600.
