SMALL CAR SALES A BRIGHT SPOT FOR FORD IN SECOND HALF OF 2002

DEARBORN, Mich., October 1, 2002 – With four consecutive months of sales increases, Focus continues to be a bright spot for Ford. After suffering sales declines in the first half of 2002, Focus turned the corner in June (with sales up 0.4 percent) and posted double-digit sales increases in both July and August. Focus set a record of 25,239 units in September. This sales total of over 25,000 units marks the best sales month of calendar year 2002 and the best-ever September sales total.

Mickey D’Armi, Ford’s Car Group Marketing Manager, said, “We’re delighted to see the success Focus is currently enjoying. Focus is an outstanding purchase, offering small car buyers the most choices and the best driving dynamics in its class.”

Ford expects Focus sales to stay strong through the remainder of 2002, thanks in part to an all-new advertising campaign that will launch in mid-October. The 2003 Focus features a no-charge extended service plan that offers 5-year/100,000 mile powertrain coverage.

Focus, the best-selling car in the world last year, is offered in four distinct body styles: sedan, wagon, three-door hatchback and five-door hatchback. The base MSRP for a 2003 Focus is $13,195, including destination and delivery.
