The LA Auto Club has a "Stalled On the Freeway" Plan
--Most Southern Californians rate congestion as
the No. 1 traffic problem in the region. Piecemeal approaches aren't
solving the problem. The Auto Club will announce a major effort to
achieve region-wide consensus on congestion relief and release a new
report on congestion called "The Quiet Crisis."
WHO: Auto Club President and CEO Thomas V. McKernan Jr., Los
Angeles City Councilman Hal Bernson, West Covina City
Councilman Ben Wong and five Los Angeles commuters.
WHERE: Behind Union Station, Los Angeles (from Alameda Avenue,
turn right on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, right into first
driveway into Union Station property, immediate left up ramp
and follow road to the end).
WHEN: 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002
VISUALS: 101 Freeway traffic, metrolink trains and buses. B-roll
of the 4 most congested interchanges in the Los Angeles area
will be provided along with copies of "The Quiet Crisis"
report. Taped interviews with commuters about congestion will
be included in b-roll. Five different commuters who drive, use
trains or buses will be at the news conference and available
for interviews.
