Porter and Tysinger Tops at HMS on Hargray Night

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (September 28, 2002) The O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury
Late Models returned to the Hardeeville Motor Speedway after more than a
month and a half layoff on Saturday night. Tommy Porter, Jr. of
Savannah, GA picked up the victory over current track points leader Shane
Jenkins from Statesboro, GA. In Legends Cars action, Billy Tysinger of
Hardeeville, SC recorded his first career victory. Steven Moore from St.
George, SC and Timmy Dasher of Bluffton, SC won the Mini Stock and Xtreme
Stock Car features respectively. Randy Grainger from Summerville, SC
picked up two Road Warrior wins. The Lightning fast lawnmowers put on two
exciting exhibition races at Hargray Fan Appreciation Night as well.

Polesitter Shane Jenkins jumped out to an early lead in the O.C. Welch
Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models. Tommy Porter kept Jenkins within
striking distance and passed him on lap 10 to take the lead. Fast
qualifier Mark Terry from Rincon, GA trailed both Porter and Jenkins, but
seemed to fade as the laps wound down. This was Terry's first time back to
the track since July and he should be able to get the car dialed in on the
long runs. Fans have a good chance of seeing the white number 95 in
victory lane before the season ends. Jenkins closed in on Porter a few
times but could not make the pass. A late race caution for Tom Haidon of
Hilton Head, SC and Corey Fletcher of Bloomingdale, GA set up a two-lap
shootout to the finish. Porter, with a good jump on the restart, held a
four car advantage over Jenkins at the finish. Ex-dirt racer Randy Cook
from Savannah, GA finished third, followed by Terry and Walter Reardon of
Savannah, GA. If Jenkins starts the next weekend's race, he will clinch
his first HMS Track Championship.

In Legends Cars racing action, fourteen-year old Andrew Smith of Pooler, GA
jumped out to an early lead at the start, as faster timer Billy Tysinger
passed three cars on the first lap to go from his sixth place starting spot
to third. Tysinger passed Jimmy Lang of Bluffton, SC the next lap and took
the lead away from Smith on lap 3. Tysinger held a commanding lead
throughout the race until a caution on the 22nd lap bunched the field
behind his rear bumper. Jonathan Haidon from Hilton Head, SC., Lang and
Smith all made runs at the leader, but were unable to pass his for the
win. Following Tysinger across the line was Haidon, Lang, Smith and Darren
Gordon from Hilton Head, SC. Haidon's finish puts him three points ahead
of Lang going into the final points race of the season on Saturday, October
12th.

The 50/50 drawing benefiting the Jasper County Rotary was won by a
gentleman visiting from London, England. He picked up $350.00 after his
winning number was called out and said, "I love this American racing."

Next Saturday night, October 5th, the Hardeeville Motor Speedway will be
back in action with its 3rd annual NAPA Night at the Races featuring the
