DIVISION FINALS HEATS UP TEXAS MOTORPLEX
Ennis, Texas - Nearly 700 competitors representing 16 tracks will be in competition this weekend for the NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Texas Motorplex. Racers will be competing for individual and team honors, as champions will be crowned in Super Pro, Pro, No-Electronic Quick, No-Electronic Street, Motorcycle, and High School.
"There are so many good racers here in attendance, anybody can win on any given day" said Larry Eperjesi, last year's winner in Motorcycle.
Four racers from this weekend will also be invited to compete at the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship, held during the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway. An invitation to compete in Pomona in the Super Pro racing class will be given to the winner of a run-off between this weekend's winner in Super Pro and Pro. The No-Electronic Quick winner will be invited to represent the division in the Pro racing category, while the No-Electronic Street winner will be invited to race in the Sportsman racing class. This weekend's Motorcycle winner will also be sent to compete Nov. 7-10, to race against the best from NHRA's other six divisions.
"It was a pretty cool, I'd like to have an opportunity to race at Pomona again this year," said Jeremy Hefler, Super Pro runner-up at last year's national championship.
Racing continues tomorrow at Texas Motorplex with day two of time trials, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday's feature race is the Race of Champions competition, in which the top Electronics and Non-Electronics racer from each track will be waging battle to determine who the best racer is in the division. Also on Saturday's schedule is a High School Race to crown the High School division champion and a Manager's Race, pitting the track operators of the NHRA South Central Division in a race for bragging rights. The Race of Champions, High School Race, and Manager's Race are all scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
