Hella Receives Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation

Building for the Future: Hella Receives Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation

As European automotive manufacturers progressively move from 14- to 42-volt systems, international marketing consulting company Frost & Sullivan announces that the 2002 Market Engineering Product Innovation Award for the European 42-Volt Vehicles and Components Market is presented to Hella for its pioneering efforts in product development.

In this evolving market, the key to success will be getting 42-volt to market early, prior to the technology reaching commercialisation and widespread acceptance. Hella has responded swiftly to this market imperative by developing unique products and technologies in anticipation of the transition to 42-volt systems and ensuing demand from vehicle manufacturers.

“Hella have shown their commitment to 42-volt with a range of innovative product launches, which have catapulted the company to the top spot amongst leading supplier to end-users even before the shift to the higher voltage comes into effect,“ notes Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Peter Bowlus.

To meet the impending transition to 42-volt systems, Hella has built an enviable product range that covers power generation and electronics systems. The company is a potent force in the power management arena with its DC/DC converters. Furthermore, it enjoys a strong presence in the field of semiconductor switches, lighting systems, and is developing competencies in sensors, relay systems, as well as climate/heating controls.

“Hella has been at the forefront of DC/DC converter development, which are critical to dual voltage systems. Their converters feature high efficiency with minimal energy loss, small size/weight to performance ratio and minimal quiescent current of <=200 milli amps. These converters will be key in the shift to 42-volt systems,“ notes Bowlus.

In terms of electronic systems, the award recipient has maintained a consistent focus on product innovation. Hella's power distribution units provide the benefit of full electronic control of the on-board power supply. Other value-enhancing features include the capacity to easily incorporate supplementary functions, and avert the 42-volt arcing of mechanical switches.

An accent on product innovation has consistently been accompanied by Hella’s efforts to develop an extensive product portfolio. This strategy is likely to prove invaluable in a market where the transition to 42-volt will be defined by growing interrelation and interdependence of systems.

To choose the recipient of this award, Frost & Sullivan analysts tracked new product launches, R&D spending, products currently in development, as well as new product features and modifications of leading participants in the the European 42-volt vehicles and components market.
In recognition of its proven excellence in building a broad line of innovative products and technologies, Frost & Sullivan presents the prestigious Market Engineering Product Innovation Award for the European 42-volt Vehicles and Components Market to Hella.
