RATEC Gearboxes Approved for Daytona Prototypes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 24, 2002) -- Grand American Road Racing Association has approved the use of two gearboxes produced by RATEC Research Ltd. for use in the Daytona Prototypes. The RATEC 96T H-pattern gearbox and RATEC 96S sequential gearbox join the EMCO Gears GA 46-P and GA 46-C on the list of approved gearboxes for the Daytona Prototypes, which will be the premier class of the Rolex Sports Car Series beginning at the 2003 Rolex 24 At Daytona next February.

"These RATEC gearboxes are one of the most commonly used gearboxes in American sports car racing. RATEC gearboxes have proven their reliability over the years, and I'm glad we are able to add such a reputable manufacturer to the list of approved gearboxes," noted Daytona Prototypes Project Manager Mark Raffauf.

Several renowned race teams have relied on RATEC gearboxes, including the TWR Jaguars and Dan Gurney's Toyotas. English-based RATEC Research has enjoyed success in the Rolex Series, as well. Two-time SportsRacing Prototype champion Dyson Racing Team utilizes the RATEC 96T gearbox in its pair of Ford-powered Riley & Scott race cars, which have earned 14 overall victories in the Rolex Series. Robinson Racing has also used the RATEC gearbox in its Riley & Scott, as well as Jim Downing in his Mazda-engined Kudzus.
